Hi, my name is Amber Bailey. I am 35 years old and recently went through a traumatic experience. I was rushed to Elkhart General Hospital on the 13th of May and was woken up on the 14th to be told that my large intestine had to be totally removed. Now, I live with a colostomy bag.
I have been going to hospital after hospital—St. Joe Memorial, Elkhart General, Goshen General, LaPorte, Maryville—all these hospitals for about 6 to 7 months, telling them something did not feel right when I used the bathroom. I was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease back in 2019, only to be sent home saying all my CAT scans and blood work looked fine, with the same medications in different milligrams from different doctors. Well, on the 13th of May, I was rushed to Elkhart General with a 108° temperature and woke up on the 14th to surgeons telling me they had to remove my large intestine.
So now, I’m dealing with the fact that I have to live with a colostomy bag for the rest of my life, and I’m only 35. I’m asking for donations to cover some of the hospital bills I got from going in and out of the hospital trying to get help and nobody listening to me. My insurance, which is HIP State Insurance because I am medically frail, would not cover most of those visits because they did not consider them emergencies. I have a few ambulance bills that have to be paid before they put a warrant out for my arrest. If anybody could please help, I am currently in IU Indianapolis Hospital trying to heal and get stronger so I can go in for a third surgery. I am appreciative of what anybody can do, even if it’s just to check on me every day. I feel like I have nobody in my corner, and I would also like to hire a lawyer to sue Elkhart General for malpractice, so I also need help with that. Thank you for your consideration. I’ve never made one of these before, so I don’t know if this is what I’m supposed to be saying.
