Hi, my name is Shawntelle, and I’m raising funds to help keep my mom safe, housed, and cared for as she battles a host of medical problems, including dementia, epilepsy, diabetes, hypertension, and, most recently, having her leg amputated. She came down with a really bad infection, and we almost lost her. She was placed on hospice, but by a sure miracle, she woke up a few days later and was removed from the hospital. After 11 days in the neuro ICU, she was able to come home. She’s currently staying with my husband and me. We provide the routine, medical care, and peace she desperately needs. But despite doing everything I can to manage her expenses on my own, I’ve now hit a point where I need help. I have been off work on FMLA, and they only give 12 weeks, but my mother needs continuous, round-the-clock care and certain medical supplies that we were told Medicaid does not cover. This $5,000 will go directly toward covering her care and ensuring she isn’t displaced during an incredibly vulnerable time in her life. I’m not asking for anything extra, just enough to stabilize things and protect her apartment and well-being, allowing me to stay home to care for her, as I am all she has for help.
