“Just a Wound — Until It Wasn’t”
It started as a simple accident. I slipped on wet concrete, and my leg hit the edge of a broken metal signpost. I didn’t think it was serious until I saw the wound—deep, wide, and bleeding heavily. I was rushed to the emergency room.
The doctors said the cut was too severe for regular stitches. It had damaged multiple layers of skin and tissue, and some parts were already showing signs of necrosis. I needed debridement to remove dead tissue, followed by a skin graft surgery to help the wound heal properly.
They explained the graft would involve taking healthy skin from my thigh and placing it over the wounded area on my leg. The surgery was necessary—not just for healing, but to prevent long-term infection or worse, loss of mobility.
The physical pain is one thing. The financial stress is another.
Even with basic insurance, the hospital bills are overwhelming. The emergency treatment, the surgery, hospital stay, follow-up visits, wound care supplies, antibiotics—it all adds up fast. I’ve been placed on limited movement, so I can’t work right now. Every day feels like a fight between recovering and figuring out how to afford to recover.
I’m not asking for pity—just a bit of help to get through this. Any support, no matter how small, will go directly toward covering my medical expenses and basic needs while I heal.
This wound changed my life in ways I never expected. But with the right care—and a little support—I know I’ll get back on my feet.
