The Gift of Life: A Plea for Help
Imagine being a young mother, full of life and dreams, suddenly facing a life-threatening illness. This is the reality for my cousin Rachael. She is a mother of four, who has had her world turned upside down by polycystic kidney disease and end-stage renal disease. As her kidneys fail, her hope lies in a life-saving kidney transplant. Finally, after a long wait, she has reached the top of the UNOS list, bringing her one step closer to a healthier future. But the journey is far from over.
Rachael’s situation is even more challenging because one of her children has cerebral palsy, requiring constant care and attention. Balancing the needs of her children with her deteriorating health has become an immense struggle. The transplant offers a chance to regain her strength and continue being the loving and devoted mother her children need. However, the financial burden of medical expenses and the costs associated with post-transplant care are overwhelming.
The transplant will take place at IU Hospital in Indianapolis, requiring her to stay there for up to a month after the surgery. This means additional expenses for accommodation, food, and transportation. We are appealing to your generosity to help this family during this critical time. It will help cover medical expenses, provide a safe and comfortable living arrangement during her recovery, and ensure her children are cared for.
