This fundraiser seeks to provide financial assistance for the medical and related expenses associated with the treatments needed for Libby Barrett.
We are coming alongside the Barrett family as they seek to find care and treatment for their beautiful, sweet Libby. At 9 years old, she is fighting for her life. She has been diagnosed with an extremely rare condition called Aplastic Anemia and is in need of a bone marrow transplant. The staff and team at Children’s of Alabama did a phenomenal job of finding a bone marrow donor for Libby, and plans were moving in the direction of a mid-July procedure. But it was then discovered that Libby also has a gene mutation (TERT) that has caused Telomere Biology Disorder, which is further complicated with Dyskeratosis Congenita. This development means that the already unbelievably rare condition and specialized treatment needs have limited the pool of medical professionals with knowledge and experience to an even tinier group. And the treatments she will need to undergo, and the health risks she will face, will be a lifelong battle. The journey ahead will be LONG and it will be HARD.
Because of this, the Barretts will be undergoing significant amounts of travel to out-of-network healthcare facilities and experiencing an overwhelming burden of emotion, stress, and financial expense. While we offer our thoughts, prayers, and deeds to them, there is little we can do to alleviate many of those burdens. However, we do hope that we can help to cover those financial expenditures that they will be facing in the days, months, and years ahead.
