In the early morning hours of May 27, 2025, a son of the Quezada family experienced a near fatal car accident on Northwest Bay Road in Nanoose Bay, B.C. This serious accident resulted in multiple injuries as well as a traumatic brain injury for their child.
We are setting up this fundraiser for the family to lessen the burden of the unanticipated medical expenses. As a result of the accident there will be months of rehabilitation and the parents will need time off from their jobs during this recovery period in hopes for the best recovery possible.
It’s has been 3 weeks since the accident. And their son, who is a student at Ballenas Secondary School, is slowly recovering. It will be about 6 months before he can return to some normalcy, including playing soccer with his peers and graduation in June 2026.
The parents Ms. C. Quezada who resides in São Paulo, Brazil, Mr. Michael Quezada an OFA 3 at BC Ferries and his wife Dr. Sherilene Quezada, a Nanaimo District Secondary School teacher on Vancouver Island, BC. They have a large family with pre-teen, teens and young adults as well as hosting international students for School district 69.
Michael and Sherilene Quezada have been a huge part of our community contributing as volunteer coaches for Oceanside Football Club & Nanaimo United Football Club (soccer) and Oceanside Baseball for over 7 years.
For the past three weeks while their son has been in recovery at the hospital, the family has been consumed with daily travel back and forth between the hospital. All while continuing to balance work, their family and volunteer responsibilities.
The Quezada family is thankful to the Métis network and the greater community for their thoughts and prayers.
Recently their son was able to attend St. Mary’s Church service as an outpatient on Father’s Day with the family. The family reports that their son will be returning home soon to continue outpatient therapy and re-integration back into home life.
The family plans to give general updates for privacy reasons.
Thank you for all your care and support as this family navigates through a difficult time. Together we can lift this family up as they have done for so many families in our community.
