My name is Erika, 35 years old, living in Alabama. I have really struggled with how to go about this process in asking for help, yet I truly believe there are good people in this world, so here I go, stepping out on faith.
I was diagnosed with SLE Lupus a few years ago, which led to many, many more diagnoses. I am currently confirmed diagnosed with nearly 20 different disorders, diseases, and syndromes. On New Year’s Eve of ’24, I had to resign because I could no longer sustain any type of gainful employment. I’m currently a patient at 5 different doctors’ offices.
I am in extreme pain every second of every day. IBD makes leaving my home difficult, but even more than that are the copays. Between the gas for travel, the prices of my medications, and God forbid I want to eat that day, the biggest kicker yet is being told I desperately need this procedure for a suspicious tumor on my liver. Yet, I find out the day before it will cost $365, and the very next day at my spine doctor is another $100 copay. I’m not asking for more than what will help. I will be transparent by blogging and posting receipts so you will know your generosity will save my life. I am hanging on, choosing what medications I am able to fill because I simply can’t afford it. Please, beautiful kind strangers, I need help.
