This is a story about a nurse working in a trauma hospital who contracted COVID-19 twice. The second transmission landed her in the hospital for 31 days. She beat the virus, but unfortunately, due to the severity of the illness and her pre-existing condition of only having one kidney, she has been left with irreversible kidney damage and now needs a transplant.
Over the last year, she has required numerous hospitalizations without having medical insurance. Her medical bills are in the hundreds of thousands, and she is doing her best to pay them. I am establishing this fundraiser in hopes that some of us can help lessen her financial burden.
For those that know Laura, they can’t help but love her, and those that don’t, believe me when I say, “Laura is a remarkable woman with a heart of gold.” She is kind, compassionate, and loving. She is also a fighter, a warrior some would say. In all the years I have known her, she has never looked at herself as a victim. She always says, “I would never change any of my trials and tribulations, for they are what molded me into the person I am today,” and if given the chance, she would run back to that hospital without a second thought.
Becoming a nurse is one of her biggest achievements and her way of “giving back,” she would say. Her goal was to be the kind of nurse she has had in the past, for they were there for her during her darkest moments. They cried with her, laughed with her, and they refused to allow her to give up on herself.
I thank you in advance for any and all contributions. If finances are tight, you can still help Laura by sharing her story.
