Hello and thank you for looking into this fundraiser!
My name is Elise Dumas and I’m doing this fundraiser for my sister-in-law, Paige Walker (soon to be Dumas), who is, first of all, a wonderful, genuine person, and a loving mother. Paige, 32, who has been working through the limits of her condition, needs help with an assistive device that will increase her mobility and help her on her way to doing what she loves—being a wonderful mother, gardening, and working in the ER as a nurse tech—helping people in active health crises and hoping to go to nursing school to get her nursing degree. She has very strong goals, and I believe she can do it with the help of this assistive device and your help!
Paige was diagnosed with a degenerative disease called Lupus (SLE) when she was 19. She has also had several mini-strokes and is undergoing genetic testing for another degenerative disease called Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS). The possible misdiagnosis means that the immune suppression therapy treatments she has been undergoing have actually made her condition worse. However, Paige is a fighter, staying strong mentally, and is going back to physical therapy to meet her goals in mobility. She knows she can have better mobility with this device and, in turn, a better quality of life. This device would allow her to strengthen her whole body and be better for her mobility outside versus other assistive devices.
Unfortunately, Paige’s insurance will not pay for this assistive device called a Zeen (a walker-type device), which costs $4,300. As she cannot work at the moment, she cannot afford this very crucial device. For Paige, this device means mobility without the effects of weight-bearing that other assistive devices can cause. She wants to be able to go above and beyond to reach her goals, which will be possible with the Zeen.
This is where you come in. I’m asking all of those who can to please donate something so we can help Paige reach her goals to become more mobile with the Zeen, be able to do more, and start her journey to overcome this debilitating condition.
Paige is doing all she can, medically, mentally, and physically to get back on her feet again, and she has inspired me to help out as much as I can! I hope her story has inspired you to help her out in this time of need and donate to her recovery. Thank you for taking the time to read Paige’s story and, please, if you can, donate.
