Our dearest great uncle, Uncle Larry, has recently suffered a devastating stroke. He is 81 and anyone who knows him, especially from back in the day, knows he was always the life of the party. Folklore surrounding his youthful exploits is legendary. A great conversationalist and a number one soul brother, no one loves the fullness and wonder of life more than Uncle Larry. Since giving his life to Christ several decades ago, his faith and spiritual commitment have never wavered. We’re asking everyone and anyone who ever loved him to help give him a vigorous fighting chance.
Our healthcare system is severely broken. The way the United States allocates and dispenses basis human care is inconceivable and unconscionable.
Some things are working in Uncle Larry’s favor. His right side is severely affected but thankfully he’s left-handed. And years of walking 6 to 9 miles a day at the YMCA have conditioned his body to make a recovery to his original baseline achievable. This means with intensive therapy, he can make it back to a good quality of life. His sister, our great-aunt Katie in Georgia, has cared for him tirelessly and selflessly for the past six years and given him a happy and wonderfully comfortable life despite his compromised mobility and other limitations.
If anyone has experienced catastrophic health issues, you know we are all essentially under insured. Uncle Larry not only needs extensive therapy to restore his strength and reawaken his motor capabilities, but he also badly requires the services of a competent transitional personal care home. These are things not routinely made accessible through our current health structures. We are asking you to help fill the gap. Anything you can give will make a huge difference in meeting both goals. Uncle Larry had his stroke on May 31st and our great aunt Katie is paralyzed with grief. With a modest income of $2000 a month, Uncle Larry can’t reach the initial cost of the care he needs which will be $2700 monthly. His care clinicians estimate a 6-month recovery time. Thanks for taking the time for reading this appeal and please know anything you can offer will be a tremendous help.
