Subject: Help Me Get Home and Heal
Dear friends, family, and kind strangers,
I’m reaching out during a difficult chapter of my life — one I never saw coming.
Not long ago, I went into the hospital for heart surgery and ended up in a coma for three days. When I woke up, I couldn’t walk. Not even a little. Before this, I’d had knee replacements, but I could still transfer myself from chair to bed and navigate life with effort. Now, I can barely stand. I’m being moved to a cardiac rehab facility soon, where I’ll begin the process of relearning how to cope and move again — step by step, if not physically, then emotionally and mentally.
The staff here have shown me a kind of dignity and care that’s hard to put into words. My main nurse, Tiara, treats me like a friend, chatting with me as if we’re just catching up over coffee. That simple grace makes all the difference — when someone is bathing you or helping with things you never imagined needing help with, compassion matters more than ever.
At home, Eric and our cats are waiting. He visits often, brings my laundry, and does what he can, even leaving my worn clothes with the cats so they don’t forget my scent. But this has been hard on him, too. Seeing me unconscious brought back trauma from watching his mother in the same state before she passed. There’s a weight we’re both carrying — loneliness, fear, and the longing for something normal again.
We were able to get a secondhand wheelchair from Facebook Marketplace, and it’s in good shape — new tires are on the way. But to truly make our home livable again, we need help. A few steps and layers in our house need leveling, and we’ll need a ramp just to get me inside the front door. These modifications aren’t luxuries — they’re essentials, so I can leave rehab and actually go home.
If you’re able to contribute financially, we’d be deeply grateful. Every dollar will go toward making our home accessible, supporting ongoing medical needs, and giving me a fighting chance at real recovery.
If you can’t give, that’s okay too. Sharing this page or sending kind words means just as much.
Thank you for reading. Thank you for caring. Most of all, thank you for helping me find my way home.
With love and gratitude,
Kaye and Eric Mallory
