My name is Cortny, and I am writing on behalf of my dad, Carl Yanik aka Bucky. This fundraiser is to help cover medical expenses, travel expenses for future appointments, and to help get what he needs to go home safely.
During the evening hours of Monday, June 3rd, Dad was brutally attacked by an unprovoked man with a machete and had to be life-flighted to a nearby trauma center. His brachial artery, along with everything else of importance, on his right arm was cut clear to the bone. The doctors had to give him multiple units of blood, repair his artery, tendons, and nerves, and told us it is a miracle his arm was not completely severed or that he didn’t completely bleed out. Dad also had to have tendons and nerves repaired on his left arm, has 8 staples on his head, a glued cut on the other side of his head, 3 stitches on the back of his neck, and a small laceration on his chest. He is at very high risk for infection and will require wound care.
If you know our dad, you’ll know that he is a very stubborn and strong man. He does NOT like to sit still. While we know that he will push to heal quickly, there is no way to know how long it will be before he has full function of his hands and arms. Until then, Dad will need help, and we are quickly realizing that we can only do so much. After such a traumatizing event, we don’t want Dad to have to worry about finances. As of right now, we are unsure of his insurance status and what they will cover if he has insurance.
