Hi, I’m Joshua Callahan.
On January 23, 2025, my mother took a very nasty fall while she was at home in the evening. She couldn’t get up, so she was sent to the emergency room. It was later determined that during the fall, she had broken her right femur. On January 23, 2025, she went into the first of four surgeries to get this bone fixed. A week later, she was sent from the hospital to rehab. Five days later, rehab said something was wrong because the wound was still oozing more than they felt it should. Rehab sent her over to the surgeon, who sent her straight back to the hospital. On February 5, 2025, she went in for surgery number two because it was believed she had an infection. Surgery number two found she had a deadly infection. My mother was put under isolation while they waited to see if the drains and wound vac would help pull any more infection out. On February 14, 2025, it was determined she still had an infection, so she went in on February 15, 2025, for surgery number three. On February 21, 2025, my mother was sent back to rehab to wait out the wound vac helping drain the wound because it was open and to learn how to walk on this leg again. On March 22, 2025, she was sent home. She was home for two weeks, and on the morning of April 5, 2025, the original repair to her leg failed, and she fell a second time. The failure of the original repair caused the bone to break for a second time. On April 6, 2025, she went in for surgery number four to repair the broken bone again. My mother was kept in the hospital for a week and a half to monitor everything because of the infection possibility and any other issues that may arise. On April 14, 2025, she was sent to rehab (this was a different one), and there she stayed until May 8, 2025. This time, the physical therapist wanted her to stay off the leg completely except for a transition from bed to wheelchair or from wheelchair to toilet, and he gave her a length of two months. The surgeon agreed that she needed to wait two months before trying any short walks. My mother was told when she does get clearance for a short walk, it will just be a short walk, and she will not power through and be tough. If it hurts, she should sit down.
So, from the third week of January to the first week of May 2025, she hasn’t been working, which means she hasn’t been earning money to pay basic home bills nor to cover the medical bills that have accrued. My mother is finally back to work, but she doesn’t make enough money to cover both basic home bills and these large medical bills. If you can provide any assistance towards her medical bills, I would greatly appreciate it. It would mean the world to my family and myself! I appreciate any amount for her so she doesn’t have anything else to worry about other than recovering fully.
