My name is Joe, and I’m raising funds to help my sister Mary Morales and me get through an incredibly difficult time. Last September, I was admitted to Kettering Hospital in Dayton, Ohio, after struggling to breathe and feeling extremely weak. My blood count was dangerously low, and I needed multiple blood and iron transfusions. Despite all the tests, doctors couldn’t figure out what was wrong. After being released, I had a colostomy, but still had no answers. In February, my health took another turn for the worse, and I ended up in the hospital again. That’s when my sister Mary stepped in. She borrowed money to travel from Houston, Texas, to Springfield, Ohio, just to bring me home because I was too weak to travel alone and had no money for the trip. Once I got to Houston, I was admitted to Memorial Hermann Greater Heights Hospital, where I had my first major surgery to remove a fist-sized tumor and treat my colon cancer. Just two weeks ago, I had another emergency surgery for a clogged intestine. Through it all, Mary has been by my side, moving into a bigger place so I could have my own room and supporting me every step of the way. She’s been struggling to keep up with rent, bills, and food while caring for me, and I feel like a burden because I can’t work and only receive food stamps. I’ve applied for disability, but it could take up to two years to get any help. The stress has been overwhelming for both of us, especially after my second surgery. Mary has sacrificed so much, and I see the toll it’s taken on her physically and emotionally. Any support from this fundraiser would help us pay rent, cover bills, buy food, and manage my medical expenses. Most importantly, it would relieve some of the stress we’re facing and allow me to focus on my recovery and begin chemotherapy. I’m deeply grateful for any help you can give to support Mary and me during this challenging time.
