Hi, my name is Gonzalo Wu, and I truly appreciate you taking a moment to hear my story.
I’m a 20-year Navy veteran, and more importantly, the father of a 23-year-old nonverbal autistic son who also has epilepsy. My life has been dedicated to service—first to my country, and now to my son, who needs full-time care and constant support.
For as long as I can remember, I’ve lived with genu varum, or bow legs—a condition that has caused increasing pain, joint damage, and difficulty walking. A while back, I underwent corrective surgery, hoping for relief and a better quality of life.
Unfortunately, the surgery was a complete failure.
Rather than improving my condition, it left me in worse shape than before. My mobility has declined, the pain is constant, and I struggle daily just to move through basic tasks. As a father and caregiver, this has been devastating—not being able to be fully present and physically capable for my son hurts more than words can explain.
After seeking second opinions, I’ve found a specialist with experience in complex revision surgeries who believes he can help. But there’s a catch: he’s out of network, and my Tricare insurance won’t cover the costs. I’ve exhausted my savings and resources trying to fix the damage from the first surgery, and now I’m left in a position I never imagined—asking for help.
The total cost for the surgery, travel, rehabilitation, and post-operative care is estimated at [$243,000”], and I’m doing everything I can to raise these funds. This isn’t just about walking again—it’s about being the father my son needs, and getting back to a life where I can serve and show up for those who depend on me.
If you’re able to contribute, any amount would be deeply appreciated. If you can’t donate, please consider sharing this campaign with others who might be able to help.
From one human being to another—thank you. Your kindness, generosity, and support mean the world to me.
With gratitude and hope,
Gonzalo Wu
