Hi,
My name is Dawn and my daughter’s name is River.
River is 8 years old.
She is an adventurous, delightful little girl who loves the outdoors and creating beautiful art. She has exceptional drawing skills and has also recently begun reading chapter books!
Last summer, River experienced her first seizure event.
We rushed to the ER, but all tests and lab results came back normal, with no evidence of a seizure being had.
We enjoyed the rest of our summer and autumn without incident, while taking all recommended precautions for play and daily activities.
Christmas Eve arrived and River’s seizures returned with a vengeance.
Since then, we have had quite a few seizures each month, despite changes to diet, sleeping patterns, exercise, and other healing modalities.
Some seizures have occurred during very scary times, such as on the stairs, while eating, and while showering.
It has been a difficult and scary time that has come with a lot of changes and limitations.
River has lost quite a bit of her autonomy while on seizure watch, as well as coping with memory loss, time lapses, intense emotional swings, and erratic behaviors. It is challenging and also heartbreaking.
We are currently pursuing neurology referrals and will have a sleep-deprived EEG soon, as the first of many upcoming neurology appointments to study River’s brain and find out what’s happening.
Hopefully, we can find some causes and solutions in a matter of time.
That being said, I will be covering all of these expenses out of pocket. We do not qualify for state insurance, and the medical bills will continue to stack up as I keep working and making small monthly payments.
We need help. I am doing all I can to keep up with the demands of medical expenses, but they are seemingly insurmountable.
We have already accrued upwards of $5,000 of medical expenses for visits thus far.
Any and all help would be greatly appreciated, and I am so grateful for each and every one of your contributions.
