Hi Everyone!
February 13th is a day that has forever change my life. I was diagnosed with Papillary Thyroid Carcinoma – a form of Thyroid Cancer. The last few months I have been preparing for surgery. I have had countless Dr appointments, scans, lab work, a few ER Trips – you name it. My care team has meticulously reviewed everything we can to make surgery as smooth as possible, and to get the best possible outcomes. I have poured so much of myself into this journey, and it’s my hope that after surgery I get to start the next chapter of my life Cancer Free.
My total thyroidectomy is scheduled for June 12th at UTSW in Dallas.
After surgery, the team will –
• Run pathology to stage the cancer
• Identify the specific subtype of papillary thyroid carcinoma (I have a rare genetic fusion that can act more aggressively)
• Check whether the cancer is contained within the thyroid or if it has started to spread – currently it is believed no lymph nodes or surrounding tissues have involvement
If it’s still contained, I may be able to avoid further treatment. If not, I’ll need Radioactive Iodine Therapy with a Radiation Oncologist at a later time. I am hopeful that it hasn’t spread—but I’m preparing for whatever may come next.
How You Can Help –
