Dear colleagues and friends,
It is with a profoundly heavy heart that we share the passing of our friend Dr. Sriram Somanchi. While on a long-overdue family vacation this past Saturday, Sriram suffered sudden cardiac arrest and left us forever.
Sriram was a rising star in our Information Systems community. After earning tenure at the University of Notre Dame last year, he was enjoying a brief window to relax and spend time with his family and friends. He is survived by his wife Soumya, their six-year-old son, and their one-year-old daughter.
In an irony that feels especially cruel, he also published a paper on predicting cardiac arrest from EMR data. His scholarship, which blended rigorous machine-learning techniques with genuine concern for patient outcomes, set him apart as a researcher.
Beyond his CV, Sriram will be remembered for his laughs that filled our hearts, the mentorship he offered to students, and the kindness he showed to anyone who crossed his path. We cannot yet fathom our field and our lives without his infectious enthusiasm and warm smile.
Please take a moment to keep Sriram’s family in your thoughts.
We are organizing this fundraiser campaign to support the family and use any leftovers to create a memorial award in Sriram’s name. Your contribution, no matter the size, would be deeply appreciated during this difficult time.
No one can predict life’s turns, and this loss reminds us how precious our time together truly is.
With deepest sympathy,
Sriram’s friends and colleagues.
